Splatoon 2 has sold 3.61 million units since it launched in July while other games such as 1-2 Switch and ARMS have sold 1.37 million and 1.35 million copies respectively.

Nintendo's net profit leapt to 85 billion yen from 45 billion yen, while its operating profit now stands at a projected 120 billion yen from 65 billion yen, the firm reported.

Nintendo Co. on Monday posted sales of 374.04 billion yen (3.3 billion USA dollars) for the first half of the 2017 business year, compared with 136.81 billion yen a year earlier, owing to brisk sales of its Switch game console.

In an earnings release on Monday, Nintendo revealed that it will sell 14 million Wii U units by the end of its fiscal year in March.

"Thanks to our component suppliers, who even opened up new production lines for the Switch, our ability to ship the console has improved drastically", Nintendo CEO Tatsumi Kimishima said, according to The Wall Street Journal.

The single biggest reason Nintendo has been unable to produce enough Switches is the shortage of electronic components.

"We've boosted Switch production to meet strong demand as it was hard for customers to buy the consoles at retail stores." .

Nintendo launched the Switch in March.

"The true power of the Switch would be tested during the upcoming holiday season".

This graph shows post-release Nintendo Switch sellthrough trends for the North American market. Nintendo also boosted its software sales forecast, which it now believes will total 50 million units, up from its previous forecast of 35 million.

The only way sales of the Switch could go any better for Nintendo is if production could be easily increased.

Last week's release of Super Mario Odyssey, which bettered the week one performance of Breath of the Wild in the United Kingdom, should propel those numbers even further.

The results come at a time when Nintendo is trying to reduce reliance on consoles and stabilize fluctuating profit by moving into new areas such as smartphone gaming and theme parks with its roster of popular characters.
