A Florida Republican is looking to halt funding for Robert Mueller's special investigation into ties between Donald Trump's presidential campaign and Russian Federation and bar review of all matters before Trump's campaign kicked off.

Mueller was appointed special counsel in May by Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein to look into Russia's attempts to influence the USA presidential election and to see whether any members of Trump's team had improper contacts with Russian officials.

The New York Times first reported the meeting, and Trump Jr.'s initial response was that he "primarily discussed a program about the adoption of Russian children".

In addition to removing funding for the probe within six months of passage, the measure would prohibit Mueller's team from investigating any matters occurring prior to the June 2015 launch of President Donald Trump's campaign.

The following day The NYTimes reported that the meeting was sold to Don an opportunity to obtain damaging information on former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign. The meeting, Trump Jr. was told, was being arranged "as part of Russian Federation and its government's support for Mr. Trump", to which Trump Jr. replied, "I love it". The statement was then crafted aboard Air Force One as Trump returned from the G-20 summit in Hamburg, Germany.

Specifically, investigators working for Mueller are trying to find out how much Trump knew about the meeting when he helped write the initial statement his eldest son gave to the New York Times, NBC News reports.

One source told them Mueller was seeking to discover if Trump had knowingly made a false statement about the meeting.
