India will now take on Sri Lanka in a five-match ODI series and a single T20 worldwide before taking on Australia in a limited overs series in September.

India will also be playing another Test series against Sri Lanka later this year.

The former world cup winning captain Arjuna Ranatunga, who is also Jayasekera's Cabinet colleague, had called for Sumathipala to step down as SLC boss.

Shastri also heaped praise on Hardik Pandya and Wriddhiman Saha: "Hardik may still be new to Test cricket but he's showing what a quick learner he is".

With Shikhar Dhawan, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane all crossing the three-figure mark, KL Rahul slamming crucial fifties and the lower middle-order making those useful contributions in Sri Lanka, Shastri expects good days ahead during overseas tours. And while that remains the goal, we must realize that if India need to show their might in the game, achieving results in Test cricket is the pinnacle.

"Now, these are two different sets of goals altogether".

"Look at countries like England and Australia and how they perceive the game".

"There's a good understanding among us".

India clinically put away Sri Lanka in the Test series without so much as a single hiccup but with India's number one Test ranking secure for the immediate future the focus shifts to the 2019 World Cup. "But if this team really has to be tested, then it's Test cricket and we have plenty of it coming up next year", Shastri added. Look at this series. Since the rain-affected one-off Test in Fatullah in 2015, India have won eight consecutive series and are only one short of equalling the world record. We will look to continue the momentum and perform well. "We know each other's strengths", Shami said.
