It's National Roller Coaster Day, and theme parks from coast to coast are celebrating by announcing their new coasters for the 2018 season.

In the United States, for example, we take roller coasters very seriously.

In what may be the park's most anticipated announcement in almost two decades, Cedar Point will annouce at noon today the specific plans for the roller coaster formerly known as Mean Streak. Some of the most popular attractions include the Top Thrill Dragster, Magnum XL-200 and Millennium Force.

Expect to learn all that, and more, starting at noon today, as Cedar Point hosts what it's calling a Hootenanny in the FrontierTown area of the park.

The coaster will now be called Steel Vengeance.

A hybrid roller coaster is one that has a wooden frame with steel tracks.

The park announced Wednesday that "Steel Vengeance", a ride being built using portions of the Mean Streak coaster that closed past year, will open as a so-called hybrid roller coaster that mixes steel track on a wooden structure.

For NASCAR fans, the Intimidator is a steel hypercoaster inspired by Dale Earnhardt.

According to Wikipedia, roller coasters were built to mimic the "Russian mountains" and the first ever roller coaster is located in St. Petersburg. It is 232 feet tall and travels up to 75 miles per hour.
