Lewis Grabban returned to haunt Norwich as the Sunderland striker's double inspired a 3-1 win over his former club in the Championship on Sunday.

Norwich were dominating proceedings early on, but Sunderland opened the scoring against the run of play 27 minutes in when Grabban ran behind the Canaries defence, latching onto a James Vaughan flick-on from a ball over the top, and poked home.

The game was as good as over when McGeady teed up Grabban, who spent two years at Norwich between 2014 and 2016, for his second.

McGeady joined the relegated Black Cats from Everton following a tremendous season on Loan with Preston.

The former Celtic winger was lurking on the edge of the box when a corner was only half cleared and, after being picked out by Lee Cattermole, he fired in a superb first-time effort with his left boot to give Gunn no chance.

After the former Everton man's goal, Norwich made some attacking changes, as Josh Murphy and Nelson Oliveira were introduced to the game, but it was to no avail, as Grabban nodded home a third, to nearly certainly wrap up all three points.

Grabban had a hat-trick for the day of sorts when he diverted the ball into his own net with 12 minutes remaining, but it did little to derail a fine afternoon for a Sunderland side looking to rebound straight back into the Premier League.
