South Portland defeated in Little League World Series

Fairfield American is going to the Little League World Series after defeating South Portland, Maine 10-0 to win the New England Regional tournament Saturday at Breen Field at the A. Bartlett Giamatti Little League Leadership Training Center.

Fairfield American will play its first game in the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pa., against the victor of the Mid-Atlantic Regional final between New Jersey and Maryland.

Fairfield routed ME to open the regionals, beating them 8-0 earlier this week.

Michael Iannazzo had a pair of two-run doubles, scoring twice and driving in four. Also for Fairfield, Matt Vivona was 3-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored, and Sean O'Neill scored three runs coming off the bench. Andrew Heffernan pitched into the 5th inning for Maine. Tyler Bauer went the final inning and two-thirds.
