Vishal was pumping out water that had collected near the state wrestling body office - located inside the stadium - when he was electrocuted, reports said. He was rushed to the Ranchi Sadar Hospital where he was declared dead by the doctors.

Vishal, who started his wrestling career in 2005, came fourth in the last senior national wrestling championship. Since the past couple of weeks when heavy rains lashed Ranchi the condition of the indoor stadium has only worsened.

Bholanath Singh, general secretary and coach of the Jharkhand State Wrestling Association, said they have announced Rs 1 lakh interim relief to the bereaved family.

It has been furthermore discovered upon preliminary investigation by the police that Verma was actually trying to help clear water out using a water pump at the time of the incident, and the faulty wire was indeed the prime cause of the wrestler's tragic death. "We have demanded Rs 10 lakh compensation from the government for the kin of Kumar", Indian Express quoted Singh as saying.

"It is extremely unfortunate".

A monthly fixed amount of Rs 10,000 will also be given to the family of Vishal Verma.

Vishal was the lone earning member in his family of six members with three unmarried sisters. The situation of the stadium is pathetic and the building is in ruins.

Ganesh Jha, the general manager of Jharkhand Bijli Vitran Nigam (JBVNL), said: "An executive engineer visited the site and reported that there is no fault in the power connection provided by JBVNL".
