The Boston Celtics and Philadelphia 76ers will travel to London in January for a game at The O2 arena.

This will be the NBA's eighth regular-season game in London, and it is the second appearance for Boston and Philadelphia after playing preseason games in London and Manchester, respectively.

The 76ers will be playing their second game in the United Kingdom and first game in London, having previously played a preseason game in Manchester against the Oklahoma City Thunder in 2013.

The Sixers are aiming to make the playoffs for the first time since 2012 with a roster full of young talent and potential in Joel Embiid, Ben Simmons, Dario Saric and Fultz. This will be the eighth National Basketball Association regular-season game in London overall. "We're happy to be returning to London to play our rivals the 76ers in front of London's fans, and look forward to the exciting atmosphere at The O2".

"This is a tremendous opportunity to showcase our dynamic team filled with exciting global players to a fan base that has a clear passion for world-class sporting events", said Sixers managing owner Josh Harris, who also owns Crystal Palace Football Club of the English Premier League.

Because the Sixers are the home team, season-ticket holders with automatic payment plans will not be charged for one game.

The Sixers' last Christmas Day game was a 2001 road loss to the Lakers that occurred six months after Los Angeles defeated Allen Iverson and company in the NBA Finals.
