Keita was Liverpool's priority midfield target this summer but the club postponed their attempts to sign the Guinea global after Leipzig's refusal to negotiate.

Liverpool appear to have failed this summer in their long pursuit of landing the star midfielder.

"Next season, Keita theoretically has the option to leave", he told Bild.

Ralf Rangnick, RB Leipzig's sporting director, has made his strongest suggestion yet that the club is prepared to sell Naby Keita next summer.

"I presume that he'll play a great season again, above all in the Champions League".

"Accordingly, it will probably be hard to keep him".

Ahead of their debut Champions League campaign, Leipzig confirmed they rejected a €75million offer from Liverpool for the 22-year-old Guinea worldwide.

"(But) it's important that Naby is still playing with us this season".

Leipzig had hoped they would be able to reach an agreement to adjust Keita's contract.

On the release clause that becomes active next summer, Rangnick says: "I'm not sure we can change it".

But, another good season and Keita could well be targeted by bigger clubs with more money than Liverpool.
