Ravindra Jadeja expressed his gratefulness on social media towards Mahindra Singh Dhoni and Virat Kohli after he became the world's top-ranked bowler and all-rounder by the International Cricket Council (ICC) in its latest Test rankings released on Tuesday.

He was handed a one-match suspension and a fine of 50 per cent imposed by the ICC for accumulating six demerit points over last 24 months. He achieved this feat after he claimed 7 wickets in the second Test match against Sri Lanka at Colombo which included a five-wicket haul in the second innings.

He has been replaced by left-arm-spinner Axar Patel.

Soon after ICC announced the rankings, Indian captain Virat Kohli took to his Twitter handle to congratulate Jadeja.

"My humble journey 2 be #1 Test AllRounder & bowler was possible due 2 @msdhoni @imVkohli, my fans & family #bcci #icc #teamindia #rajputboy", (sic) wrote Jadeja.

Sri Lanka have already suffered crushing defeats in the first two Tests and losing Herath compounds their problems.

Many humdingers have taken place ever since Test cricket, the most engrossing form of the game, has been formed, with matches even decided by bad light - the final Ashes Test in England in 2013 - and poor weather - the Cape Town Test between South Africa and England in 2016, where rain had its share in ensuring an abruptly interesting game ended in a draw. Jadeja's contribution with the bat has been noteworthy too.

In the bowlers' list Ravichandran Ashwin (842 points) dropped a place to be third with Jimmy Anderson a notch below Jadeja.

Jadeja made Michael Clarke his bunny, dismissing the Australian captain five times in the three Tests that he played in.

Yadav is expected to make the starting XI in the Test at Pallekele starting Saturday in place of Jadeja, who was handed a one-match ban for risky play in India's last Test against Sri Lanka.
