Halle Berry reveals she once lived in a homeless shelter

In an interview with Jess Cagle for People, Halle Berry opened up about her not-so-glamorous past, revealing that she'd once stayed in a homeless shelter in New York City after falling on hard times.

While modelling in Chicago as an 18-year-old, she was convinced to take up acting by a teacher and she made the move to NY where she quickly ran out of money. "I mean three months later, I was out of my cash", Berry recalled.

"I called my mother and I asked her to send me some money and she said no".

"But again that was probably one of the best things she did for me".

She said her mother told her to work it out and she did, getting a job as a waitress and then a bartender before her acting career kicked off.

"Giving up was never an option", she exclaimed. It took me right back to my high school years. 'You say I can't, watch me. "I'm going to figure this out. Then I got a bartending job, and until I could figure that out, that's what I did", she said. The actress is in full promotion of his latest film Kidnap, has entrusted on her love life.
