"Louie" last signed off in mid-2015, and two years later, FX still has no update on whether creator and star Louis C.K. will continue on with another season. That break has now turned into an indefinite hiatus. On a panel with Pamela Adlon for her show Better Things, which he also produces, C.K. told the Television Critics Association he doesn't imagine doing more Louie unless he updates the show dramatically. CK later reiterated that point, saying he would never make more Louie just because he felt like he was supposed to, and he added that he doesn't really have any stories in mind for the "just-divorced kinda underwater dad/struggling NY comic" he played on the show. "You know, stained black T-shirt, two kids".

On "Louie", C.K. plays a fictionalized version of himself - a comedian and father raising his children in New York City. "I always thought that if I did Louie again, I might circle back to it later in a different version with new ideas". "I have no idea if that will happen". "No idea if I'll do it - I don't think about it much". CK has an overall deal with FX, and works on several shows for the network including Better Things and Baskets, but continuing Louie has become less of a priority in part because the show's premise no longer aligns with CK's real life. He prefers to focus on those four shows.

"I really love making TV and right now I'm involved with her show", C.K. said. "I think it's the best show on TV. I think she's the best director on TV".

FX CEO John Landgraf didn't sound any more optimistic about the show's return. "I've said I think it's possible there'll never be another episode of Louie. And I think it's also possible there'll be four or five more seasons of Louie over the next 30 years". I think he'd run out of things to say about that time. He decide to stop. I think if it ever comes back, it'll be a really different show because I think Louis is a very different guy than he was the last time he made this. "It hasn't come up for a while".
