President Rodrigo Duterte said on Wednesday he will step down from office if any of his children were involved in corruption after his eldest son Davao City Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte was hauled into a smuggling scandal troubling the Bureau of Customs (BOC). "I told you before and I'm telling you now again, if any of my children is involved in corruption, I will immediately resign... you have my word", Duterte said during a business forum in Mandaluyong City.

"Corruption was really one I do not like". Why would we entertain or believe hearsay?

Bureau of Customs Imports Assessment Service Director Milo Maestrecampo yesterday stepped down from his post to clear his name after he was named during the House inquiry on the R6.4-billion worth of shabu smuggled from China as one of the BoC officials allegedly involved in corrupt activities.

The grant of immunity from suits and security protection to Taguba appeared to be not a unanimous decision by members of the Committees on Ways and Means and on Dangerous Drugs.

But the broker denied during the hearing having evidence and that he has never talked to Vice Mayor Duterte.

Taguba said a certain "Tita Nanie" to whom he was giving P10, 000 bribe per container had said to him that the money would go to a "Davao group" headed by the vice mayor.

This is not the first time the name of vice mayor was dragged into controversy at the BOC.

He said most of those he worked with inside the BOC had name-dropped Duterte's son.

Vice Mayor Duterte also challenged those who implicated him to file appropriate charges in court.
