It was the final open practice before Thursday's preseason opener against the New Orleans Saints at FirstEnergy Stadium, and quarterback Brock Osweiler once again led the first-team offense after being tabbed as the starter for the Saints game, but the competition is still very much open at this point.

On Monday, not only did the Cleveland Browns announce that Brock Osweiler will start their first pre-season game, they also released a Brock Osweiler hype video.

As for who will start Cleveland's opener on September 10 against Pittsburgh, Jackson insisted he hasn't made up his mind.

The Cleveland Browns acquired quarterback Brock Osweiler and his $72 million contract just prior to the NFL Draft in March.

Still, Osweiler has impressed the Browns, who are coming off a 1-15 season, with his attitude, work ethic and leadership. Miami coach Adam Gase, who coached Osweiler in Denver, reportedly reached out to Cleveland last week after Ryan Tannehill injured his knee.

Osweiler isn't taking any extra satisfaction in working his way onto the depth chart - and now up it. "Bottom line, a lot of work still needs to be done and I think this football team knows that". "This is just one step".

Kizer, who missed a wide-open touchdown pass during the scrimmage, said it's critical for one of the quarterbacks to step forward. "There needs to be a pecking order in order for the leadership to happen the way it needs to". Kessler came into camp as the man to beat, but he's been inconsistent and seems to have slipped behind Osweiler and Kizer.

Kessler doesn't see Osweiler being chosen over him as a setback.

"This thing is an opportunity", Browns coach Hue Jackson said. "That's something I was always stuck with: control what you can control".
