A plane belonging to the Ethiopian Airlines clipped wings with a parked Air India aircraft at the Indira Gandhi International airport here on Tuesday night.

While an official statement from the Ethiopian Airlines is still in anticipation, the damaged Air India plane is grounded temporarily.

The wings of the two planes collided with each other, said an Air India official on the condition of anonymity.

After the collision, the Ethiopian flight which was bound to Addis Ababa was cancelled and all passengers were de-boarded.

In aviation parlance, a push-back manoeuvre is carried out to ferry aircraft from the parking bay to the tarmac, after which the plane uses its own engines' power to reach the main runway for take-off.

The Ethiopian Airlines apologised to its passengers and said, "We flew with an substitute aircraft to continue with flight service".
