Kayal sustained a break to the fibula during the Seagulls' 2-3 friendly defeat to Atletico Madrid on Sunday and Hughton told Sky Sports News the 29-year-old will be out of action for "something like 10-12 weeks".

"We had some bad news on Beram Kayal who came off at half-time in Sunday's game", said Brighton manager Hughton.

"The good news is it was a clean injury as such".

Brighton are putting the finishing touches to the preparations for their first-ever Premier League opener this weekend and they have been handed one of the toughest matches of the campaign.

"The operation went very, very well".

Seagulls boss Chris Hughton expects the former Maccabi Haifa and Celtic star to be sidelined for at least eight weeks.

Meanwhile, striker Sam Baldock will miss the first game of the season as he recovers from calf surgery, but Anthony Knockaert will be available after shaking off ankle ligament damage.

Manager Chris Hughton says the break was "clean" but he still expects the Israel worldwide to be sidelined until the latter part of October. "We don't expect any complications".

Mr. Christopher Gerard Hughton, coach of newly promoted English Premier League (EPL) side, Brighton & Hove Albion F.C., has become the first born Ghanaian to coach an English Premier League side in history.
