Announced in October 2015, Bang & Olufsen's striking BeoLab 90 speakers were monstrous creations that simply refused to be ignored. That honor still goes to the BeoLab 90, which costs an eye-watering $84,990 for a pair. Nearly 2 years later, B&O has crammed much of its flagship tech into a smaller and (relatively) cheaper package called the BeoLab 50 active speaker.

It's an impeccably designed speaker, with a large curved bottom, but a small footprint overall.

Speaking to Bang & Olufsen at its factory in Denmark, the company said the BeoLab 90 was created to go into some homes, an ultra-exclusive speaker, while the BeoLab 50 is the more consumer-friendly version.

B&O's Active Room Compensation technology can be found onboard the new speakers.

The loudspeaker delivers active room compensation by using an external microphone to measure its physical acoustic surroundings and alter the compensation filters accordingly for optimum listening from particular listening positions or throughout a room.

Acoustic Lens Technology on the top of the speaker (pictured above) handles the sound dispersion of the upper frequencies. This lens disperses the sound via Beam Width Control into either a 180-degree sound mode for movie-watching or a party or a narrow mode for a dedicated "sweet-spot" listening experience.

The BeoLab 50 comes as a pair, with one speaker being the master and the other the slave. BeoLab 50 will be available in selected Bang & Olufsen stores worldwide in August 2017. The curve has been deisgned in such a way to make it appear as though the speaker is floating on the floor, and after seeing the speakers in the flesh, we feel it works to great effect. Since then, the brand has become an icon of performance and design excellence through its long-standing craftsmanship tradition and the strongest possible commitment to high-tech research and development. Consequently, its current product range epitomizes seamless media experiences in the home as well as in the auto and on the move.
