"What would you call a person who says that the chief minister should be shot dead, hit with slippers, threatens a collector that he will be imprisoned and a police commissioner that his pension will be denied?"

Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu has alleged that his predecessor, late YS Rajasekhar Reddy, had a hand in an attempt on his life by Maoist rebels in 2003. "The promises of Chandrababu Naidu are confined only to putting up foundation stones", Renuka said. Addressing party leaders through video conferencing here today, Mr Naidu referred to the remarks of Mr Reddy that there was no wrong if he (CM) was gunned down on the road.

It may be recalled that Naidu had survived an assassination bid on October 2 2003, when a landmine missed his vehicle while he was on his way for a religious function at Tirumala hills.

The Election Commission has issued show cause notice to YSR Congress Party president, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy for violating Model Code of Conduct during a byelection in the state. He said that the surveys are predicting that the YSRCP could win up to 30 seats in the next election.

The returning officer of the Nandyal constituency byelection had received a complaint on August 4 that during election campaign speech on August 3rd, Reddy made an objectionable and provocative speech, after which an inquiry was initiated in the incident.

The ruling party in the state has fielded Bhuma Reddy as its candidate for the election, the YSRC has named Silpa Mohan Reddy its nominee.
