An initial hearing is scheduled Thursday for the man accused of killing a Southport police officer last week, but the hearing could end up being postponed.

Twenty-eight-year-old Jason D. Brown was scheduled to appear in court Thursday, but his hearing was delayed until August 9 because he remains hospitalized.

Southport Police Chief Thomas Vaughn set up the GoFundMe campaign after Lt. Aaron Allan was slain July 27, allegedly by a motorist he was trying to help following a auto crash.

Brown was hospitalized after another officer shot him following Allan's shooting. A judge has ordered him held without bond.

Allan was trying to help after Brown's auto overturned in a crash on Marion County's south side when he was shot at least 10 times, according to updated charging documents.

The affidavit states that Brown opened fire on Allan, who suffered 11 gunshot wounds, including one to his heart.
