Sooners Go Through First Practice

It's nearly football time in Oklahoma, and a groom provided the first highlight before the Sooners kicked off their season.

It was the first under new head coach Lincoln Riley, who despite his increased responsibility, expects nothing to change in the communication his quarterback Baker Mayfield.

It also marked the first time since the 1998 season that Bob Stoops wasn't patrolling the practice field as OU's head coach.

The Sooners on that side of the ball don't feel like it will be that much of a change. "They've been chomping at the bit to get out here". It was the first of 29 scheduled on-field workouts before the Sooners open their season September 2 at home against UTEP.

Like Mayfield, Riley said he was pleased with Monday's camp opener.

"It was a good practice", he said. "The goal the first couple of times out is just getting their feet underneath them, getting used to being on the practice field". Not that it was louder or anything like that, I just think it was more focused. "Right now people are just focused on working hard".

Junior kicker Austin Seibert is not now with the team but is expected back soon. Fan appreciate day will take place Saturday Aug. 5, beginning at 8:30 a.m. Kids are only allowed one item per person to be signed and accompanying adults are not allowed to bring items to be autographed.
