A late night police chase ends with the suspect still on the run after taking off on foot near Kechi.

It began with a traffic stop for speeding on I-135 near North Newton at around 8:45 p.m. Thursday.

North Newton Police Chief Randy Jordan said that William J. Roberts, 34, a known fugitive with multiple felony warrants out of Colorado, was last seen in the Kechi area, near Woodlawn and 61st Street.

When a Harvey County deputy arrived as backup, Roberts drove away.

Police say they then found an abandoned vehicle in Frisco, Colo., but did not locate Roberts. The Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office is assisting in the search. He is 6 foot 1 inches tall, 240 pounds, with an athletic build.

Roberts is described as 6-feet tall, weighs approximately 230 pounds, has brown hair and some facial hair and was wearing a gray tank top, black shorts or trousers.

"I would say to the public, if someone unusual approaches your home or your vehicle, call 911 immediately", Jordan said.

KMGH reports Roberts is wanted for vehicular assault in Aurora.

People in the Kechi and Park City areas are advised to be on alert as police say Roberts should be considered armed and risky.

Police also believe Roberts committed other crimes in the Dillon/Silverthorne area.
