The club said that amount had been deposited with a notary until the case was fully resolved.

Media reports suggested Neymar had gone to Porto, where PSG sporting director Antero Henrique had worked until recently, to undergo a pre-transfer medical.

He was the man who had Lionel Messi's four-match worldwide ban for insulting a linesman overturned.

By leaving Barca, Neymar is stepping out from under the shadow of five-time World Player of the Year Lionel Messi to try and prove himself as the world's best.

Asked about the Neymar transfer, the Rangers boss said in a press conference: "You will see the difference in PSG this season to last". I wish you good luck'. "If you do that you have the risk of even more punishment but it's a decision I will leave with him".

Playing together, Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez have contributed 364 goals (Messi with 153, Suarez 121, Neymar 90), and forged one of the most potent attacking relationships in modern football.

But Neymar, who only signed a new contract with Barcelona in October 2016, could now be made to wait with La Liga alleging PSG is failing to comply with FFP.

UEFA told Omnisport all transfers come under the jurisdiction of FIFA, so this would be a matter for world football's governing body.

La Liga chief Javier Tebas has been very vocal in his fight against the transfer, which was expected to be completed on Thursday evening or Friday, and seems to have carried through with his threats to try and derail the deal.

"Clubs in the Premier League are a little bit more financially responsible than they once were - spending £200m plus agents' fees on one player doesn't generate financial sense", added Wilson.

In a statement to CNN, UEFA said it had not yet received a complaint regarding any possible deal for Neymar.

Neymar has been offered a basic salary of £26.8m-a-year (€30m) after tax, around £515,000-a-week.

"We shall therefore only make calculations at the end and make sure that they respect the rules".

But Neymar remains determined leave the Nou Camp after PSG met his release clause.
