The north London club have been mocked this summer for failing to make many signings, but it seems that keeping their key players was the most important thing for the club, and after Manchester United expressed an interest in Eric Dier, along with several clubs being linked with Harry Kane, the club have got through the transfer window doing just that - for now.

Ex-Spurs defender King has claimed he is shocked by how naturally Dier can fill two positions on the pitch and heaped huge credit on him.

And King says that he has been very impressed by the ease with which Dier has handled playing in both positions.

The Spurs legend said: "I remember watching him in pre-season in Denver [in 2015], and he impressed me straight away".

"I quickly saw he was capable of that and he went on to have a great season in midfield".

"It can be hard but playing multiple positions is the sign of a good player", King said, as quoted by the Evening Standard. "He can start and if he feels as comfortable at the back as he does in midfield, it may be no problem to him".

"That's a great strength that this Tottenham team have". You've seen Eric either step out or step back and make subtle adjustments.

"With the ball at his feet he looks very comfortable and very cultured". There had been rumours that Jose Mourinho had been looking to lure Dier to Old Trafford, with a £40m bid being made last week.

And the club's fans are most definitely happy about that, with some suggesting Dier is of a higher standard to Matic.

Being in the Champions League again will prove another challenge, and they will be hoping to do far better than last season. He has also played on 19 occasions for the England national team.
