Kubica 'won't be disappointed' if F1 drive doesn't happen

Former Polish Formula 1 star Robert Kubica returned to the track on Wednesday for a Renault test session, his second appearance on a Formula 1 track after a crash six years ago.

The 32-year-old, who partially severed his right forearm in that horrific 2011 accident, left the pit lane to start testing Renault's current auto at the Hungaroring circuit outside Budapest.

When Kubica was asked if he was satisfied with his performance he said, "Yes, but not 100 percent happy".

"For a driver the best feeling you can have is everything comes so easily you don't think about it".

Renault had given Kubica two tests in 2012-spec machinery earlier this year - at Valencia and Paul Ricard - and then chose to run him in the official F1 test to better understand if he is capable of a return in 2018.

"There are sides which need to be improved or need to get better, but it's always like this. once you are here, you want to do better and more".

"I would like to have a comfortable feeling in the vehicle but also see the team happy with the job I have done", he had said before the test.

Speculation about Kubica's return has gathered pace since he impressed the team in the 2012 Renault vehicle, with its V8 engine and demonstration tyres.

"He is still quick, he is still very consistent and more importantly he has this energy and this drive, this enthusiasm that he has always had", the team's managing director Cyril Abiteboul said in July. Renault are likely to have a vacancy at the end of the season, and maybe even sooner, if Britain's Jolyon Palmer continues his run of poor form.

Palmer is one of just two drivers yet to score a point in 11 races this season, and has been eclipsed by German team-mate Nico Hulkenberg.

Vettel, the race victor last Sunday at the Hungaroring, set the pace on Wednesday with 17-year-old Briton Lando Norris second on the time sheets with 91 laps for McLaren.

Italian Luca Ghiotto did the most laps of anyone on track, 161 with Williams, on his test debut for the team.
