Diario Gol report that the Belgium attacker is one of the players being considered by new Barca boss Ernesto Valverde as he looks to replace the 25-year-old Neymar, who finished fifth in last year's Ballon d'Or voting.

Barca are believed to be lining up an improved offer for the Brazilian after having a previous £70million bid for him rejected by the Merseysiders.

They even suggest Barca want to get the deal wrapped up by the end of this week so he can be presented to the club's fans on Monday.

Barcelona are set to play Brazilian club Chapecoense on August 7 in the 2017 Joan Gamper Trophy.

Coutinho has been touted as a prime target for the Catalans as he's also capable of being Andreas Iniesta's long-term replacement when he eventually leaves the Nou Camp.

They have brought in the likes of Mohamed Salah, Dominic Solanke and Andy Robertson this summer in an effort to further strengthen their cause, with there being the promise of more movement to come before the current transfer window slams shut.

It proved to be the only negative on a night of positives for Jurgen Klopp's men, though, who face Atletico Madrid in Wednesday's final after they beat Napoli.

He has been forced to plead with the player not to ask for a move, because the temptation from Barca is so big.

Coutinho played 31 times in the Premier League last campaign, scoring 13 goals, helping Liverpool secure their return to the Champions League.

Jurgen Klopp says he is pleased with Philippe Coutinho's progress ahead of the new season.
