The Spain global, 28, has been looking for a way out of Stamford Bridge since the end of last season after Antonio Conte sent him a text telling him he is no longer wanted, despite his 20 goals in 35 Premier League games.

Costa's lawyer Ricardo Cardoso has now suggested that the player is set to hand in a transfer request in order to speed up the negotiations and complete his move to Atletico Madrid. We will formally request a transfer request, ' he told Agencia EFE.

"When he was with the Spanish national team and before travelling to Brazil for his holidays he was dismissed from Chelsea through an SMS by Antonio Conte".

Atletico Madrid are the favourites to sign Costa, but their transfer ban means he will be unable to feature until January 2018, while Chelsea have already signed his replacement in Alvaro Morata. The Spanish striker's lawyer has confirmed the news after revealing that the player feels that he has been unfairly treated by manager Antonio Conte.

The 28-year-old played a crucial role in Chelsea's successful last campaign, scoring 20 goals in 35 games to help the Blues to claim the Premier League title.

"Of course the handling of it, the way it was done and the fact that it was made known to everyone represents unfair behaviour and a lack of respect towards the player, which was inexcusable on the part of coach Antonio Conte".

"Chelsea have not just not denied nor corrected the coach, either in public or private, but instead renewed his contract". There is no way that he can continue to play for Chelsea, a message which has been communicated various times to those in charge there.

"And he will not play for any other club which is not Atletico Madrid, a club where he had sporting success, but above all where he was always respected, even after he had joined Chelsea".
