Under this "Rakhi pe Saugaat" offer clients can recharge with Rs 74 and users can get unlimited voice calls and data benefits.

The validity of this offer is five days.

However the catch of the offer is that it will be valid for only 12 days starting Thursday (August 3).

"Maintaining its tradition BSNL is offering such cheapest tariffs on festivities", said R.K.Mittal, Director (CM) BSNL Board.

BSNL has been offering several plans such as the "Sixer" or "666" with 2GB data per day and unlimited voice calls for 60 days.

Meanwhile, BSNL is planning to set up as many as 1070 Wifi hot spots in rural exchanges in Kerala as part of its expansion plans to reach out to rural customers. The BSNL Rakhi offer is named as "Rakhi pe Saugaat". The telecom operator has been regularly rolling out a stream of new plans to entice new and old subscribers in the face of Reliance Jio's onslaught.

Interested customers can go nearest BSNL currency recharge booth and get the new data pack. In their bid to mitigate mass migration and outrank the rivals, they are risking low returns by launching low-tariff plans with lucrative data benefits. According to multiple responses by BSNL to users' queries on microblogging site Twitter, certain customers were offered pre-FUP internet speed even after they breached the prescribed limit under its fair usage policy. The new plan, priced at Rs 244, will offer 1GB of 3G or 4G data per day along with unlimited Vodafone to Vodafone calls, for 70 days.

Now that Reliance Jio Phone (Rs 1,500) is slated to hit stores in September, established players have begun talks with mobile-makers for joint ventures and also some are merging to consolidate their market share. Similarly, those with Plan 225 now get 1GB data compared to 200MB, and Plan 325 will offer 2GB of data compared to just 250MB data.
