In Sydney, Central Coast coach Paul Okon endured a hard start to his second season in charge after the Mariners became the third A-League club to exit via a 3-2 loss to Blacktown City.

Gosford-born Joey Gibbs scored a double for the NSW NPL 1 leaders, including the victor in the 82nd minute.

It is the fifth time a state league team has beaten an A-League side in an FFA Cup clash - and the second time this campaign - after Heidelberg United upset Perth Glory on Tuesday.

Kwabena Appiah-Kubi dragged the Mariners level with a brace, but Gibbs was the hero with the victor.

Gibbs was the hero after netting on two minutes, with Giorgio Speranza doubling their advantage on 17 minutes.

Twenty-three goals were scored across the four games, easily eclipsing the previous mark of 18 in one match day.

A ruthless Sky Blues set the tone up north, wiping the floor with the Darwin Rovers 8-0 to set a record for most goals scored and biggest winning margin in any game from the round of 32 onwards.

Gold Coast City ran out comfortable 3-1 winners over Western Knights thanks to a wonderful Jarrod Kyle hat-trick.
