Struggling Swanson shipped to minor leagues

The Atlanta Braves informed Swanson that he will be sent down to Triple-A Gwinnett, multiple Braves reporters said on Wednesday.

Swanson was expected to be the key piece of a rebuilding team.

The move comes after he has hit only.213 with six homers and 35 RBIs. He was the No. 1 overall pick by Arizona in 2015 and was regarded as one of the National League's top rookies.

Dansby Swanson usually makes it look so easy. He seemed to prove those predictions correct in his first action in the bigs past year when he hit.302 with three homers and 38 RBI in just 23 games.

The former Vanderbilt star's first full major league season has been the exact opposite, though.

This will be Swanson's first experience with Triple-A as he skipped the level when being fast-tracked to the majors last season. It's unclear when Swanson will join Gwinnett as the team is wrapping up a series on the road against Lehigh Valley tonight. Swanson was shipped off to the minor leagues following a 10-3 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks in which he went 2-for-4 with two runs scored.
