Jota, 20, played under Wolves head coach Nuno Espirito Santo while on loan at Porto in the 2016-17 campaign, where he scored nine goals in 35 appearances for the Portuguese club.

Wolves have confirmed the signing of Portugal Under-21 worldwide Diogo Jota from Atlético Madrid on a season-long loan.

Jota, who has been capped up to Portugal Under-23 level, said: "I am very excited". Wolves is a huge club and an historic club.

"It is always a goal for me to play in England, and this is a good opportunity".

It could be that the journalists who concentrate on Atletico haven't had a chance to get to know the 20 year old and his talents, with him arriving and then leaving, on loan, quickly last year. I have also worked with some of the other players here as well. That will help me settle in here.

Jota is only one year into a five-year deal at Atletico Madrid, having only signed for the Spanish giants last summer, but the Express & Star are reporting that Wolves will have the option of a permanent deal next year.

It is always better when there are people that you know when you are moving to something different - a different country with a different language.

Yet with Jota joining the likes of Ruben Neves, Willy Boly, and Ruben Vinagre as summer additions at Molineux, expectations will be high among the Wolves faithful that their side can push for promotion in the upcoming Championship season. "It's a very competitive league with a lot of games".
