Spanish striker Morata joins Chelsea

Cesar Azpilicueta has told ESPN FC that Chelsea must learn from the mistakes of their last title defence if they are to retain the Premier League crown they won so emphatically last season.

Morata has linked up with Azpilicueta and Antonio Conte's touring Chelsea squad in Singapore.

Then, Chelsea - who had just won the Premier League title months earlier - suffered their worst start to a season since 1979 which left the champions hovering above the relegation zone and resulted in Jose Mourinho being sacked.

The Spanish defender told the club's official website: "After being champions three years ago we had a awful season and we have to learn from this".

"Obviously we know that after being champions of the Premier League, every team that we are gonna face, they're gonna want to win more than before so we know that it's gonna be harder but it's what we're working on that since pre-season to get into the best shape as soon as possible and to fight for it because it's a big challenge".

But I'm not exempt from this either: with the Spaniard seemingly Old Trafford bound, I pointed out that Chelsea spending £90m - the expected fee for Lukaku at the time - for a player without even a minute of Champions League experience and only one goal against the top six last season was, well, questionable, let's say.

Chelsea beat London rivals Arsenal 3-0 in Beijing on Saturday and will now take on Bayern Munich on Tuesday before their final pre-season friendly against Inter Milan later this week. We are really pleased to come to this country [Singapore] as we were China. He knows the way we play. "That is what we are here for".
