According to The Tracking Board, Oscar-winning actress Anne Hathaway is now being considered for the lead role in the live-action Barbie movie, providing the upcoming production fits with what we can assume is a very busy schedule. That comes even as its known that Alethea Jones also has been circling to direct after a nod from Hathaway.

The plot of the film is still very up in the air but a few details are available. The script reportedly centered around a woman who slowly realizes she doesn't quite fit in with the other Babies around her. Once there, she discovers that being unique is the greatest asset one can have.

The movie will be produced by Amy Pascal with Walter F. Markes and Laurie MacDonald, in addition to Mattel. The first big-screen, live-action Barbie film promises to get a huge marketing push from Sony and its partner Mattel in the summer 2018. Schumer's casting was first announced in December of past year, but this March, the Train Wreck star dropped out of the project due to scheduling conflicts. She is also set to star in "Ocean's 8" with Sarah Paulson and Rihanna. Ruth Handler modeled Barbie after Lily and then the doll was introduced at the 1959 World's Fair in Moscow.

While she has stretched her range into indie and dramatic work recently (and musical chops), going on to win an Academy Award for her role in Les Misérables, Hathaway still seems to be fond of returning to her rom-com roots. The actress is repped by CAA and Sloane Offer, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
