Renowned Nigerian Broadcaster Adebayo Faleti Dies At 86

Faleti, informed sources in his house at Morenikeji Avenue, off Tokunbo Ojo Street of Olororo area of Ojoo, Ibadan, Oyo State, died in the early hours of Sunday. He also said that he wanted to go home.

A Nigerian actor, Mr Adebayo Faleti, has been reported dead after spending 86 years on the face of the earth.

While details are still sketchy, the news was confirmed to us by Tunde Kelani who is a filmmaker and was close to Alagba Faleti. Suddenly, I noticed that he was not breathing again. "We shall miss him greatly".

The poet, writer and actor in "Saworoide" movie was said to have passed on, Saturday, 22nd July at the University College Hospital Ibadan.

Also speaking, Mr Faleti's first son, Ayoola said, his father called him on phone three days ago to ask after him, adding that he was unable to see him before his death.

In a statement signed by Kunle Famoriyo, the group's publicity secretary, ARG said while the renowned actor and broadcast manager would be missed as an unparalleled repository of Yoruba culture, his footprints in the annals of Yoruba culture should be preserved. He took care of all his children and gave us good education.

In his message, a former governor of Ogun State, Gbenga Daniel, described Mr. Faleti as a rare gem, an uncommon individual.

Faleti, who has published a dictionary containing the formal or official use of Yoruba names, was one of the pioneer staff of the first television station in Africa, Western Nigeria Television (WNTV).
