GOP had years to devise a health care plan

In fact, Sen. Chuck Schumer made repeated appeals to the Republicans to do just that after they failed to pass health care legislation.

Congressman Tom MacArthur isn't ready to give up on his party's efforts to repeal the Affordable Care Act and replace it with a new health care law.

As a federally qualified health center, Lincoln Primary Care Center also qualifies for enhanced reimbursement from Medicare and Medicaid, and that allows the center to adjust fees and ensure services are provided to families who truly can not afford care otherwise. It's like a parent who refuses to take a sick child to the doctor because it is an inconvenience.

Local public health budgets are small enough as it is. That the ACA is not what it could be, Grassley and like-minded politicians have only themselves to blame.

Hasday: So insurance means someone's taking risks.

Even with the Senate, the House and the White House, Republicans are struggling to put forward a viable alternative to Obamacare. "You can say 'I'd like to change the law, ' but you don't just say 'We're going to do everything in our power to undermine a law that is on the books.' This is about being willing to hurt people in order to get a political advantage, and I've never seen a president doing it in such a brazen way".

Republicans can only afford to lose one vote with Sen. That mostly reflects the bill's shoddy, incoherent craftsmanship, and fixing the internal contradiction will either require spending more money on insurance subsidies or upping the out-of-pocket limit.

It definitely looks like a hostile takeover, said economist Joe Antos of the business-oriented American Enterprise Institute, "but usually with a hostile takeover there is a business objective that is relatively clear".

O'Leary: And that certainly seems to be the case with the senators from those states who said absolutely not. We should plan local actions corresponding to the national march - especially for those who can not come to Washington - but the current moment demands that we make our struggle nationally visible. "Then it was repeal and replace, then it was just repeal, and now it is repeal and replace again". By deeply cutting Medicaid while offering adults who live below or just above the poverty line subsidies to buy cheap, catastrophic insurance coverage, they are looking to move people off of a government program they see as financially unsustainable, while ensuring poorer households still have some financial protection in case of a medical calamity.

Lawmakers could also appropriate federal funds for the cost-sharing subsidies, which have a price tag of about $7 billion a year. People have subsidies who are paying very little for coverage. "And when those payments stop, it [Obamacare] stops immediately. It's not trying to get this done at any cost", MacArthur said in an interview.

Rohit Kumar, a former top aide to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell now with accounting firm PwC, said that while the administration has engaged in "saber rattling", it would likely take steps to shore up the individual market if the legislative push fails. I think that we're going to be jockeying with chipping away at the Affordable Care Act.

On Monday, President Trump used Twitter to try and encourage Republicans to get in line and vote on an Obamacare repeal-and-replacement plan.

Lecturing fellow Republicans, President Donald Trump summoned GOP senators to the White House Wednesday and told them face-to-face they must not leave town for their August recess without sending him an "Obamacare" repeal bill to sign.
