Game Of Lulz: The Best 'Game Of Thrones' Memes From 'Stormborn'

Now that we're onto episode two of the season, people's memers seem to be all loosened up and firing on all cylinders.

"We last saw Nymeria when Arya made her run away because she wanted to save Nymeria's life", co-creator David Benioff explained in a chat with The Hollywood Reporter.

Season seven of Game of Thrones is truly underway, the second episode seeing the Queens of Westeros make their first moves towards seizing/keeping the Iron Throne.

Nymeria recognises her human friend.

Possibly as a cosmic reward for rediscovering her inner Stark, Arya was visited at her campfire by a pack of wolves led by - you guessed it - her own direwolf Nymeria, whom she forced to abandon her all the way back in season 1, to save her from being executed on Joffrey's orders.

She just had to say that Nymeria "isn't ready" to be Arya's pet.

Williams believes it was apt that they went their own separate ways, according to Entertainment Weekly. This is why Arya's parting words to Nymeria are, "That's not you", referencing the fact that it's no longer in Nymeria's nature to be a follower.

"Arya's not domesticated and it makes total sense her wolf wouldn't be either", he adds.

In a scene Arya shared with her father Ned, he tells her she'll end up getting married to a lord and living a life of luxury as the lady of a castle.

That line is also a call-back to season one, albeit perhaps not an obvious one. To be someone's pet would reverse everything she's learned.

Whatever the case may be, we do think Arya will be meeting up with the relatives she's always loved - but not always respected in Sansa's case - and bringing some brilliant, heart-wrenching scenes to the small screen. "Once the wolf walks away, at first she's heartbroken to have come this close, then she realizes that the wolf is doing exactly what she would do if she were that wolf". In a television show that's all about Nymeria the Wolf, she's had adventures too. And in the books, Nymeria and Arya are bonded the same way that Bran is bonded to Summer, so even if they don't physically see each other again, they could still encounter each other in their minds.
