Dunkirk has also entered the club of World War II movies with powerful debut at the box office, ranking third in the list.

"The Dark Knight Rises" (2012) was his biggest opening (160.9 million USD), followed by 2008's "The Dark Knight" (158.4 million USD), 2005's "Batman Begins" (73 million United States dollars, including a three-day weekend of 48.7 million USD) and 2010's "Inception" (62.8 million USD). "Critics and audiences alike agree that Dunkirk must be seen on the biggest possible screen, and we anticipate that the incredible response among audiences across India will drive continued success well into the coming weeks at the Box Office".

STX's domestic release of the Luc Besson epic Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, on the other hand, was an outright bomb.

With such an extensive list of World War II films, it can sometimes be hard to get people excited for yet another movie about fighting Nazis.

Styles, who has received some critical plaudits for his appearance in the film, said the process of filming on location was especially unusual. The Christopher Nolan film has exceeded expectations and predictions as it earned a respectable $50.5 million this weekend.

Dunkirk should also be in a nice position for a long, fruitful run. Korea is next, accounting for $10.3 million from 1,252 screens. Regina Hall, Queen Latifah, Tiffany Haddish and Jada Pinkett Smith star as lifelong friends who travel to New Orleans for the annual Essence Festival.

Girls Trip directed by Malcolm D. Lee and written by Kenya Barris and Tracy Oliver, from a story written by Barris, Oliver, and Erica Rivinoja. Universal's comedy Girls Trip should reverse that curse quickly and is already halfway there thanks to a $30.4 million opening from 2,591 theaters.

Fourth place went to "War For The Planet Of The Apes" with $20.4 million in its second weekend in theaters.

Receiving a B- CinemaScore, Valerian is based on the French graphic novel series and stars Dane DeHaan and Cara Delevingne as celestial cops who must travel through space and time in order to save the universe. That puts War in spot number four, behind fellow franchise tentpole Spider-Man: Homecoming (weekend gross $22 million, total gross $251.7 million). With filmmaker Christopher Nolan's blockbuster "Dunkirk" movie raking in huge audiences, there could be even more nostalgia to come.
