The left-hander from Delhi last played a Test for India in 2016 against New Zealand in a home series. The Tamil Nadu right hander has not played any competitive cricket since suffering a wrist injury after the Australia series, which Virat Kohli's men won 2-1.

Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan will replace injured Murali Vijay for the upcoming Test series in Sri Lanka from July 26.

Vijay suffered a wrist injury during Australia's tour of India and "has complained of pain in his right wrist while playing a preparatory match", read the BCCI's press release. Vijay has suffered a wrist injury and will undergo a rehabilitation program before being eligible for selection. He has four hundreds to his credit.

Opener Shikhar Dhawan has replaced injured Murali Vijay in India's squad for the three-Test series against Sri Lanka, starting at Galle on July 26. Following fractured left thumb Dhawan was ruled out of Test series against Kiwis.

Recently, Dhawan has been in superb form, ending the ICC Champions Trophy in England as the leading run-scorer. The attacking southpaw also scored 161 runs in the five-match ODI series against the West Indies. This is the first time the two countries will be playing a full series (includes all three formats) in eight years. The Virat Kohli-led Team India departs for a full-fledged tour consisting three Tests, five ODIs and a one-off T20 worldwide on July 19.
