Sunday we will continue to crank up the heat with temperatures reaching the mid 90s and feels like temperatures in the triple digits.

Wednesday night: Mostly clear with a low around 75. This will give us very hot and drier conditions Friday into the weekend making for the hottest temperatures of the summer.

Sunday: Sunny and hot with a high near 100.

The big weather story is the extreme heat returning all week with little to no rain chances.

A cold front passing south of the area will temper the heat slightly. We will see a better chance of storms Monday into Tuesday. As for rain chances, there are model differences throughout the week and will details them below. A dominant ridge of upper-level high pressure will be settling over the middle of the country, shutting off our rain chances and bringing us some of our hottest days of the year so far. A few showers and storms are possible Tuesday, isolated storms are in the forecast for Wednesday.

An excessive heat watch was expected to go into effect Tuesday and possibly end Friday, according to the National Weather Service in St. Louis. By Thursday, temperatures will hit 100 degrees, the weather service reports. Afternoon highs will likely be in the mid-90s, with heat indexes that could reach nearly 100 degrees later this week.

If you have any outdoor work planned this week, try to get it done early in the week.
