Atari's first console in over two decades, the Ataribox, has been fully revealed. For example, you will be able to order an Ataribox with a wooden front panel, and the ribbed lines along the top of the casing definitely recalls the original.

The Ataribox will feature four USB slots, an HDMI connector and an SD card reader.

There are two versions: one uses the black and brown wood combination, while the other features a bright red on the front and back to match the dark top.

The selection of ports further confirms that Atari's upcoming platform isn't exclusively intended for playing retro games.

Atari's last console was the Jaguar, which was released all the way back in 1993 and was deemed a commercial failure soon after, prompting the company to leave the video game console market. At this point, it's unsure what Atari means with the latter, but more information will be revealed in the near future. It is, for instance, unclear whether the Ataribox will include a bundle of pre-installed titles, as per the NES Classic Mini, or if its library can be expanded by downloading new software, unlike the NES Classic Mini.

Unlike recent nostalgia-baiting microconsoles from Atari's age-old rival Nintendo, Ataribox is capable of delivering "current gaming content" and classic games, according to the newsletter.

Atari isn't providing any more information on pricing, release dates, game content, or even full specs right now.

It could be another android style console so we might be seeing games that aren't AAA.

KitGuru Says: There was a lot of buzz surrounding the Ataribox when it was first teased last month.

"We're not teasing you intentionally; we want to get this right, so we've opted to share things step by step as we bring Ataribox to life, and to listen closely to Atari community feedback as we do so", said an email from the Ataribox team.
