Selanne threatened to tie Kariya up and throw him in the trunk of his auto if it meant making sure he attended Selanne's final regular-season game with the Ducks in 2014. Selanne scored 514 points in 455 games; Kariya had 528 in 395.

"I am truly humbled to be elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame", Drake said.

Recchi, who had been passed over the past three years, had been the only retired player with 500 goals and 1,500 points who was not in the Hall of Fame.

"I can't say this was a dream come true", Kariya said, "because never in my wildest dreams did I think this was possible".

The 18-person selection committee of former players and executives, as well as media and administrators of the game in North America and Europe, met for four hours Monday in Toronto. That season, Selanne scored a rookie record 76 goals and 132 points to claim the Calder Trophy as rookie of the year. She won two Olympic gold medals (2002, 2006), one Olympic silver (1998) and eight gold medals at the IIHF World Women's Championship.

Jeremy Jacobs has been called lots of things in between lockouts during his tenure as the owner of the Bruins. The two-time Lady Byng recipient set up Selanne for many goals in Anaheim and finished with 989 points (402 goals, 587 assists) in 989 career games.

Among the Hall's newest inductees are a player - Mark Recchi - who wasn't a Bruin for long, but earned the undying respect and admiration of B's fans for his contributions on and off the ice to the 2011 Stanley Cup victory. A five-time all-star, Kariya was also runner-up for league MVP in only his third season, beaten out by peak-level Dominik Hasek.

The Sabres drafted Andreychuk with the 16th overall pick in 1982, and he became one of the best goal scorers in history. Recchi, though, played more seasons with a variety of clubs like the Pittsburgh Penguins (two stints), Philadelphia Flyers (two stints), Montreal Canadiens and Boston Bruins.

"If you ask me, he's been in the Hall of Fame since the day I met him!" And it wouldn't have been a Stanley Cup Final if there wasn't that much dislike - we really didn't like each other.

Drake, 88, coached the University of Alberta to six University Cup championships during his 28-year run behind the bench.

Paul Kariya probably had to wait a couple of years longer than he should have to get his induction into the Hall of Fame, but it was at least fitting that the wait allowed him to enter alongside his long-time running mate, Teemu Selanne.
