The FBI says the gunman who shot and injured House GOP Whip Steve Scalise and three other people during a Republican congressional baseball practice last week fired a total of 60 rounds with two firearms and had a list of six members of Congress when he carried out the attack.

We've learned more today about the man who shot and almost killed Republican Congressman Steve Scalise at a baseball field in Virginia last week.

House Speaker Paul Ryan said he visited Rep. Steve Scalise on Thursday morning and that "his spirits are up" as he recovers from the gunshot wound he suffered last week. Mika's family added that the Tyson Foods lobbyist is expected to make a full recovery after undergoing multiple surgeries for his injuries.

"Our veterans have fulfilled their duty to our nation and now we must fulfill our duty to them", Trump said during a White House ceremony.

"I told him they were Republicans".

"At this point in the investigation, it appears more spontaneous", Slater said.

Mr. Hodgkinson began firing on members of Congress and others at the Eugene Simpson Stadium Park in Alexandria, Va., as they practiced for the annual congressional charity baseball game.

In a separate development Friday, officials said military chiefs will seek a six-month delay before letting transgender people enlist in their services.

That's the word from MedStar Washington Hospital Center. The night before, Hodgkinson had done a Google map search from Alexandria to his home in Belleville, Illinois, as well as a Google search for the 2017 Republican Convention.

On the day of the incident, Hodgkinson shot at the players on the field with the semiautomatic rifle and the 9mm handgun and had bought the weapons from licensed gun dealers, according to the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Before he left, police were called to his home after neighbors complained that he was doing target practice on his property.

The FBI investigation concluded that Hodgkinson acted alone. "A second document with a rough sketch of several streets in Washington, D.C. was found on Hodgkinson, however, it was not deemed to be of investigative significance". He said nothing while injured in custody before dying, Slater said. The VA is the second-largest department in the US government, with more than 350,000 employees, and it is charged with providing health care and other services to military veterans.

Hodgkinson, a 66-year-old man from Belleville, Ill., purchased the SKS rifle used in the shooting in 2003 and the handgun in November 2016, said Timothy R. Slater, special agent in charge at the FBI Washington Field Office. He also visited the office of Sen. Bernie Sanders and was "in communication" with offices of his IL senators.

Hodgkinson had expressed anti-Republican views online but Slater said, "There were no threats whatsoever".
