Hurricane Harvey: What officials say to do if you're in distress

During the deployment, California personnel to assist emergency operations in and around the hardest hit areas of Texas, conducting search and rescue operations.

Task Force-1 focuses on structural collapse rescue efforts, but is also trained for swift-water and confined-space rescues.

Hurricane Harvey, now a tropical storm, made landfall late Friday as a Category 4, dropping heavy rain in the Houston area.

Volunteers from Missouri have traveled into the storm to help victims of Hurricane Harvey.

The Task Force is a blend of multiple Bay Area Fire Agencies and civilian professionals sponsored by the Menlo Park Fire District.

Texas Governor Greg Abbot warned residents living in the eastern and southern parts of Texas to expect more rain Sunday night and with it, more flooding.

"I know that we have over 200 of these vehicles that are now in route going to Texas, not all of them coming from the Washington area", said Benjamin.

Both Army and Air Force members make up the team so that the "best qualities of both branches" are emphasized, he said. Along with the guard, Abbott said 500 vehicles, six shelters and 14 aircraft have been put into service.

Trusted World (15660 N. Dallas Parkway - Dallas) will be open from 8 a.m.to 6 p.m. August 26 to accept good condition gently-used clothing, toiletries, hygiene products and non-perishable food. Task Force One's Hazmat Support team was activated earlier this week and arrived in Texas Saturday morning.

"No matter what the disaster is when we respond, your heart just goes out to the people who have been affected by these disasters", she said. Another group of 10 people also left the area to help with ground rescue efforts. "We're in the disaster zone".
