Arsenal legend wants Wenger to quit 'for his own sanity'

Arsenal legend Ian Wright has said Arsene Wenger should quit the club due, in part, to the problems the club are facing at boardroom level (via The Metro).

Wright also expressed amazement that his old club would sell Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to Chelsea amid reports the England global could be on his way to Stamford Bridge in a £35million deal.

Arsene Wenger's position at Arsenal has been questioned yet again after The Gunners capitulated to a rampant Liverpool side on Sunday; and Balague's revelation about Wenger's frugal approach may raise further questions about the club's attitude towards recruitment.

'When you say, "do I think he should go?"

"And the way the players are performing on the pitch, for him to turn this around....(It's) for himself, for his own sanity". In our time we were winning and we had the strength to not play well but somehow manage to win the game 1-0.

"Where does he go from here?"

Arsene Wenger's ongoing presence at the helm remains an issue for some, including Wright, while the uncertainty surrounding the future of several prominent figures continues to provide an unwelcome distraction. He goes home and he's probably on his phone.

"The team in our generation were more physical but this generation are better football players, there's no doubt about that". You do feel it's nearly like his blanket, his comfort blanket.

"That is why I believe the Arsenal board - and let's face it, they've hardly covered themselves in glory - have a truly massive choice to make".

Arsenal have agreed a £35 million fee with Chelsea for the sale of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, while Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez have yet to agree extensions to expiring contracts as exit talk rumbles on.

"I have always admired Arsene", the New York City boss told Press Association Sport prior to the defeat at Anfield.

Wright was stunned by reports linking the long-serving forward with a move to the Premier League champions when he first heard them. That says we obviously have players that are good enough.
