In the live stream interview, Pink said, "I'm a person who gets nominated, I usually don't win".

Pink accepted the honour with a powerful speech about her six-year-old, who Pink says recently told her she was the ugliest girl in her class and she looked like a boy.

In the final scene of the video, one of the Taylor's says to the other: "There she goes playing the victim again".

"I said, 'When people make fun of me, that's what they use: They say I look like a boy or I'm too masculine or I have too many opinions or that my body is too strong", Pink said.

Swift has well and truly reclaimed the snake image, with Look What You Made Me Do's video clip featuring her sitting on a throne with serpents coiling around her arms. Do you see me changing my body? "No, mama." "Do you see me changing the way I present myself to the world?"

She quipped that one of her saved tweets was, "When Hillary Clinton becomes president, I promise to put out a timeless record that everybody loves".

Pink closed her speech by thanking those inspiring artists for being powerful role models, as well as offering hope to her daughter who watched from the audience.

Pink's music videos have been nominated 19 times for Video Music Awards, and have brought home the trophy 7 times.

"2016 was bad, but it feels like things are getting a little bit better in fashion".

Pink, whose real name is Alecia Moore welcomed her second child, a son Jameson, with Carey in December a year ago.

Pink performed: on top of a floating Cadillac, while driving a lawnmower across the stage, kicking it in front of a giant TV and, naturally, dancing to "What About Us".

Aaaaaaaand then there was the other stuff, from Taylor Swift's hotly anticipated video for "Look What You Made Me Do" - which devolved quickly into a mismatched mishmash of boring and recycled provocation - to Katy Perry's game but thudding hosting job.

This year, the award for Michael Jackson's Video Vanguard Award went to the truly deserved artist, P!nk.
