WOOD-TV reports that Brandon Clevenger of Springfield was charged Tuesday with reckless driving causing death.

The 55-year-old Switalski served as chief of Comstock Township Fire and Rescue for four years.

He was killed on June 14 while responding to a report of a crash on Interstate 94.

The maximum sentence is 15 years. The vehicle then crossed lanes on Interstate 94 and struck Ed Switalski.

Switalski was pronounced dead at the scene; and the driver who struck him, later identified as Clevenge, was taken to a hospital with injuries.

Investigators looked at the data recorder in Clevenger's vehicle and determined he was driving 90 miles per hour 11 seconds before the crash and slowed to 87 miles per hour three seconds before striking the median, Kalamazoo County Sgt. Craig Schmaltz said in a probable cause hearing.

Witnesses to the crash told police Clevenger was driving at excessive speeds and the fire trucks on the scene were clearly visible.

At his arraignment Wednesday, Clevenger asked for a court-appointed attorney.
