The Bears had been unwavering in their commitment to Glennon as the starter from the moment they traded up to draft Trubisky with the No. 2 pick in April.

"It was made clear to me that the depth chart didn't change", Glennon said.

Glennon will start the third preseason game, but coach John Fox said Trubisky will start the second half and get at least one series with the starters, according to ESPN's Jeff Dickerson.

While Glennon has struggled mightily, Trubisky has operated as one of the league's surprise stories, completing 18 of 25 passes for 166 yards and a touchdown in Chicago's preseason opener against the Broncos.

Trubisky has been the third quarterback on the field for Chicago in each of their first two preseason games, behind Glennon and Mark Sanchez. "Like I said, I can't control that", said Trubisky.

Trubisky's athleticism and arm talent have flashed during the two exhibitions in which he has played with the second and third strings.

Meanwhile, Glennon has completed 57.7 percent of his passes for 109 yards, a touchdown, and two interceptions.

Still, the Bears have seen enough progress from the rookie that they're curious to evaluate Trubisky against better competition and alongside Bears players who will be playing in the regular season.

"It's all about reps like I've been saying". "To get a true evaluation and for us to look at him, I think you need to do this". "So I'll just not answer it". It's got to roll over.

Teams have taken different approaches with rookie quarterbacks so far this preseason.

Mitch Trubisky was asked, toward the end of his meeting with the media on Wednesday, if he feels like he's ready to be a starting quarterback in the NFL.

"It's more of how I can make myself better each day, how I can be the best version of me and how I can make the people around me better", Trubisky said. Come out here and practice hard, get better every day and in due time, you've got to earn a spot. "That's what we're trying to do, just create competition on both sides of the ball to make this team better".

Trubisky sounded confident but stuck to talking mostly about "control" after getting first-team practice reps for the first time in his nascent pro career. "Whatever group I'm with, just go out there, lead and show them what I can do". "That's really all that came to my mind; focus on what I can control and go out and prepare this week to go out and execute".
