Police are investigating a vandalism incident involving a "Black Lives Matter" sign outside a Hamden church on Sunday.

Police in Hamden got a call from the Unitarian Society of New Haven on Hartford Turnpike around 10 o'clock Sunday morning.

Police said the sign, which was inside their property line, was vandalized so the word "Black" was cut and folded over, leaving it to read "Lives Matter".

Minister Megan Lloyd Joyner said they have since repaired the sign, but the total damage was about $150. "And we feel it's an important part of our faith to root out white supremacy wherever it lives". We believe in the inherent worth and dignity of all people.
