The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday grilled Karti Chidambaram for over eight hours in a graft case relating to irregular FIPB approval to INX Media during his father P Chidambaram's tenure as Union Finance Minister in 2007. Later, a look out circular was also issued against him to prevent him from leaving the country, CBI sources said.

On May 15, the CBI had registered a FIR against Karti on charges of criminal conspiracy, cheating, accepting gratification by corrupt or illegal means, influencing public servants and criminal misconduct.

Earlier, the CBI had issued three notices to Chidambaram junior, but he did not depose before the probe agency. Justice P Velmurugan directed the court registry to return all the papers in the case to the petitioner so as to enable him approach the Delhi High Court which has superintendence powers in the matter. Nevertheless, in order to avoid conflicting judgments if some other person related to the case approached the Delhi High Court, he said it would be appropriate for the same court to deal with all connected cases.

Karti was questioned at the CBI headquarters on Lodhi Road soon after he appeared before the investigators on Wednesday morning.

"Shri Karti P Chidambaram was the Promoter Director of M/s Chess Management Services (P) Limited whereas M/s ASCPL was being controlled by him indirectly".

A bench comprising Chief Justice J S Khehar and Justice D Y Chandrachud allowed Karti to be accompanied by a lawyer at the CBI headquarters during the questioning.

The Mukerjeas, charged with killing Indrani's daughter, Sheena Bora, are now in jail.
