The Austrian defender is wanted by three clubs with West Bromwich Albion having bid last week and Stoke City also posting an interest.

Spurs have also signed Davinson Sanchez from Ajax in defence and are set to also soon reach a deal to sign Estudiantes youngster Juan Foyth.

The 24-year-old, who has made just 15 appearances under Mauricio Pochettino since arriving from FC Koln for £4.3m in May 2015, is firmly down the pecking order in North London and is a fringe figure.

Palace have been eager to bolster their defence and had considered Mamadou Sakho at Liverpool, however like West Brom, they believe the France worldwide is over-priced at £30m.

Speaking ahead of Palace's tie with Ipswich Town in the Carabao Cup Tuesday night, Palace boss Frank de Boer ruled out any move for Sakho.

He said: 'Everybody knows [Sakho] had a major impact last season and, when he's available for us [to buy], I think that is a quality injection for the club.

"It is not like this now because he is much too expensive for the club".

Wimmer would jump at the chance to play regular Premier League football but it looks as though he will have plenty of options before the transfer window closes next week.
