People living along Highway 101 north of Brookings were warned to evacuate Sunday after the Chetco Bar fire made a westward push toward the coast.

There are now 26 wildfires burning throughout the state of OR, including the top priority fire in the United States. The number of fire personnel fighting the fire had jumped from under 400 over the weekend to 788 by early today. Crews are also working to make sure the 3,400-plus structures in the area are more defensible as the fire continues to work its way through more land. Residents can pick up the re-entry materials at either the Riley Creek Evacuation Center at 94350 6th Street, Gold Beach, Ray's Market 906 Chetco Ave in Brookings, Oregon, or re-entry points. Evacuations remain in place for the blaze that is scorching the Kalmiopsis Wilderness - burning in the scars of large wildfires from 1987 and 2002.

Forest officials said Curry County citizens have shown wonderful support and gratitude to the firefighters by bringing them donations of food and other items to their base camp.
